The qualifiers for the Liv. Dubai Schools Games Chess Championships, which began on November 5th, 2022, from 61 schools in Dubai and had 425 registrations, were completed and were hosted by our technical partners at lichess.org, a free and open-source internet chess server run by a non-profit organisation of the same name. Users of the site can play online chess anonymously or optionally register an account to play rated games. They officiated the first stage of the competition while it was played on their platform as an initial qualifying stage.
The two-part event which is a combination of an online and in-person events. Our technical and venue partner, Dubai Chess and Culture Club hosted the Finals on the 26th of November 2022 and supplied the facility for the 40 finalists who represented 21 schools in Dubai. One of the top chess tournament venues in the UAE, with a distinguished reputation and the capacity to stage international competitions, is this facility. The tournament's winners were fortunate to have world-class coaches, arbiters, and a head coach who guided every player. They were in charge of developing a number of the players who eventually became Champions.
Mr. Adnene Layouni, Senior Football Companies Specialist Sports Promotion Department of Dubai Sports Council, and Mr. Mohamed El Husseiny, Executive Director of Dubai Chess and Culture Club, were in attendance during the event and were able to watch the thrilling games. The winner of the Under 9 division was a student from GEMS World Academy. The winner of the Under 11 division was again a student from GEMS World Academy. Indian High School student took first place in the Under 13 division. The under-15 winner came from Ambassador School and GEMS Modern Academy won the 17 and 19 categories.
A student from GEMS Our Own English High School took second place in the Under 9 division. A student from the GEMS Founders School took second place in the Under 11 category. In the Under 13 category, a student from GEMS Our Own High School finished in second place. St. Mary Catholic High School won the under-15 division, while Dubai College triumphed in the 17 and 19 age groups.
The third-place finisher in the Under 9 division was a student from the Nord Anglia International School. In the Under 11 division, a student at The Winchester School, Jebel Ali finished third. A student from The Winchester School, Jebel Ali placed third in the Under 13 division once more. In the under-15 division, St. Mary Catholic High School was victorious, while in the 17 and 19 age divisions, the GEMS New Millennium School won.
