GEMS Schools earned the top two spots in the U13 girls' football championships at the first Liv. Dubai Schools Games, the first tournament of the year 2023 and of term 2. The competition kicked out on January 16th, 2023, at the Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club Stadium in Al Aweer, and it concluded with the U14 Boys at the Al Nasr Club with an incredible turnout. Liv. Dubai Schools Games Football Championships saw 1,536 kids, both boys and girls, register, and they competed from 37 schools.
Working alongside the Dubai Schools Games team that was supported by our respective partners Liv., Go sport, Mai Dubai, Aster hospitals and Clinics. Additionally, our venue partners Shabab Al Ahli and Al Nasr Club for Weeks 1 and 2, as well as our technical partner IJF Academy, participated in both weeks.
With a score of 2-0, GEMS Wellington International School claimed first place and the title of U13 Girls overall champion. GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis was placed in second place, and the match between Arcadia School and Lycee Francais International School ended with a score of 2-0 in favour of Arcadia School, who took third place.
The match was between GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail and New Indian Model School, and the overall plate category winner secured the 4th place winner. The thrilling game was tied 1-1 after extra time, favouring the fourth-place finisher GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail. Toulie Nassar from GEMS Wellington International School was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Day 2: U15 Girls.
On the second day of the Liv. Dubai Schools Games football championships for girls, Nord Anglia School emerged as the overall winners with Safa Shafi winning Most Valuable Player of the U15 tournament. They competed against Kings Al Barsha School, which claimed second place, and Lycee Francais International School, which claimed third place. In the plate division, GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail claimed an overall fourth place.
Day 3: U10 Boys.
The U10 Boys division of the football championships was won by Arcadia School on the third day with the support of the U10 Boys Most Valuable Player Leo Manati. Al Razi Boys School came in second place, followed by Lycee Francais International School in third place and Kings Al Barsha in fourth place.
Day 4: U11 Boys.
The U11 boys championship was won by Lycee Francais International School on the fourth and final day of week 1 of the series of football tournaments that were scheduled for the same month. They were led by the tournament's Most Valuable Player, Kaise Moutaqui, following their thrilling match against the second-place finishers, Al Khaleej International School, and the third-place finishers, Dubai British School Jumeirah Park. The top team in the plate division was GEMS Modern Academy taking home the 4th place winner.
The second week of the game began as it moved into the next set of games, and as was predicted, it was fiercer and more competitive. The series of football games started on January 23rd, 2023, with a new venue partner, and they were played at one of the top venues in the UAE, the Al Nasr Club. U12 Boys play in the opening match of the football tournament.
Day 1: U12 Boys
On the first day of Week 2, the U12 Boys Championship was won by GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis headed by the Most Valuable Player Alfie Redhead after a penalty shootout victory over their opponent Al Razi Boys School, a member of the ESE schools, took second place, and South View School, which won the match 2-0, took third place. The plate category was won by the fourth-place winner The Winchester school Jebel Ali.
Day 2: U13 Boys
On the second day of the competition, an ESE school, Ahmad bin Rashed Boys School, was named the U13 boys champion after defeating their rival and second-place finisher Star International Mirdif School 2-0. Al Razi Boys School, another ESE school, took third place with a score of 2-1, and Kent College Dubai, a winner in the plate category, claimed fourth place with a score of 1-0. At the conclusion of the match, the Most Valuable Player was named. Salem Issa, a member of the team that won the tournament, was awarded Most Valuable Player after the game.
Day 3: U14 Boys
The Liv. Dubai Schools Games Football Championships have come to an end, and on the final day the title for the U14 boys champion was handed over to GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail with the team being led by The Most Valuable Player Mark Watson against the second-place winner New Academy School while the battle for the third place spot went to GEMS Wellington Academy - Silicon Oasis with a score of 2-0. Finally, the winner for the plate category was announced, and it was GEMS Wellington International School.
