It was hard to put it into words what it means to be a part of the Liv. Dubai Schools Games Unified Games it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and one of the most memorable events of the year because it allows us to see kids of the same age and aptitude, with and without general learning disabilities, playing together and forming friendships via various activities.

The Unified Games were held at the Dubai Sports World on June 6, 2023. This venue is fantastic and has the capacity to handle the number of events and registrations this year, which reached 450. Without a doubt, our venue partner delivered, and we saw it with our sponsor Liv. , Mai Dubai, GO Sport and Aster Hospitals & Clinics. It was also overseen by our technical partner GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis and Special Olympics activities were administered by our support partners Hamilton Aquatics, Stryx Sports, Hoop Mountain, Pro Physique Sports and Ellite Volleyball Academy that made the event a complete success. 

The experience was astounding since no one looked down on anyone and no one was denied freedom to be themselves because of a disability, demonstrating the importance of sports, activities, and interactions in bringing people of all backgrounds together. Everybody was overjoyed to be a part of the team and was just having a good time, which generated a vibe and atmosphere that was full of proud moments, pleasure, happiness, and mostly acceptance.

We have succeeded in connecting people regardless of ability or age, promoting social inclusion, and uniting as equal teammates while playing on the course, as seen by the response we have got. Reading it all makes us feel proud to have been a part of this programme.

“We absolutely loved attending the Unified Sports Day again this year and it has undoubtedly become a highlight for us. The event consistently leaves students with the biggest smiles on their faces and having the most positive sporting experiences, which is priceless. The variety of activities on offer under one roof is excellent, which means there is always something for everyone to enjoy. The day is always fostered teamwork and collaboration amongst our students and there have been always good opportunities to form new friendships and meet new people, whilst having fun. This Unified Sport event is a testament to the power of inclusive sport, where everyone feels welcomed and celebrated. It was an amazing experience to take a group of children from WSO to the unified games on 6th June 2023.

The organisation of the event made sure it ran extremely smoothly and the warmth of the staff members involved in each session instantly put the children at ease. It was all delivered so professionally, with clear explanations for each event. It was clearly very well thought out. The staff members were really fun, active and engaging for the children.

The events were accessible for all and there were many children, who sometimes struggle to take part in some mainstream events with their peers, who were thriving during these activities and events. There was also a competitive element to the events, but this was dressed up in such a fun way that the children genuinely didn’t care if they won or lost. The activities were tailored so well in that whatever the ability of the pupils, they could access it but also be challenged by it, stretching the challenge for those it was appropriate to do so for.

For the children, the term unified was truly what it was. The teamwork and support for each other was displayed so clearly, with everyone competing together, no matter their ability.

We were so lucky to use such magnificent facilities during the event. After walking in for the first time, with several pupils visiting here for the first time too, it was quite jaw-dropping to see the facilities after entering the building. It was such an amazing experience for everyone involved and we look forward to more events like this over the coming years. I would like to extend my thanks to all of the organisers involved in this truly magnificent event!
